Local attractions/Things to see and do
The
Outer Hebrides is a wonderful location to take a well earned
break and get away from it all. It provides much to see
and do for the visitor.
Below you will find a number of activities and visitor attractions
in Lewis and Harris which may be of interest to you.
The Gearrannan Blackhouse Village
Gearrannan Blackhouse Village is a superior restored blackhouse
village based in Carloway, approximately 2 miles south of
Dalbeg. There is a café for coffee/lunch and a restaurant
(BYO) for fantastic evening meals. This is the perfect way
to experience of the old blending with the new. For more

Doune Broch at Carloway,
is said to be one of the best preserved Brochs in the country
just 5 miles south of Dalbeg Cottage. Parts of the outer
walls rise to nine metres and inside you'll find chambers
and stairways which you can still walk through and explore
at your leisure.
Calanais Stones - A stone circle that is said to
be second only to Stone Henge is one of the main tourist
attractions in Lewis and is situated just 8 miles south
of Dalbeg.
Iron Age Village at Bostadh - This building is a
replica of one of the original houses inhabited during the
Iron Age, situated in Great Bernera, approximately 30 minutes
drive from Dalbeg.
The
Arnol Blachouse
Arnol Blackhouse is an Historic Scotland run traditional,
fully furnished, Lewis thatched house which provides a unique
insight into island life, approximately 5 miles north of

Stornoway
Stornoway
is the main centre for the Outer Hebrides and this is where
the airport and ferry terminal are as well as the main supermarkets,
etc.
Things to do
Fishing
& Shooting - There are numerous lochs, some privately
owned, some free for public use - brown trout fishing is
freely available on numerous lochs near Dalbeg. Salmon fishing
is privately owned although permits can be obtained from
local estates at reasonable rates.
Golf
- Stornoway is home to an 18 hole golf course and if you
really want a rare round of Golf - there is a 9 hole golf
course in Scarista, Harris which boasts some of the best
scenery you will ever experience on a golf course.
Walking
- There are excellent walks on your doorstep - walk to Gearranan
Blackhouse village along a coastal path to experience some
breathtaking scenery of our West Coast.
Bird
Watching - there are excellent opportunities for spotting
rare species from the lounge window - sea eagles, golden
eagles, buzzards and even the corncrake have all been seen
by recent guests.
Boat
Trips - boat trips are a popular activity by many of
our guests and it is highly recommended to all you to explore
the beauty of the islands coastline. Highlights include
seeing seals, whales and dolphins as well as visiting some
